Travel Tips for International Visitors:

Japan in April is glorious, but a little planning goes a long way for car enthusiasts:

  • Dates: As you can see in the Calendar, the majority of car events in Japan tend to be held on Sundays. Petrolheads, keep your Sundays open! April 29 is a bank holiday and thus is a good day to visit Daikoku Parking Area. There will be more cars compared to a regular weekday and fewer tourists.
  • Transportation: While Japan's train system is phenomenal, many race tracks and larger outdoor meets are best accessed by rental car. Remember to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) before you arrive. Need a ride? TS Japan Tours offers interpreted/guided tours to car events within a 100km radius of Tokyo.
  • Weather & Clothing: April generally brings mild and pleasant weather, perfect for outdoor events. However, spring showers can occur, so pack layers and a light rain jacket. Note that some events may be cancelled in case of rain. Higher elevation areas (like Mt. Fuji or the Central Alps) can still be cool.
  • Cherry Blossoms: Early April often coincides with peak cherry blossom season. Many events are held in parks or scenic areas, offering a beautiful backdrop. Expect larger crowds at popular viewing spots. See here for a cherry blossom forecast.
  • Food & Drink: Most larger events will have food trucks and vendors. Try to buy something from them to support the organizers.
  • Etiquette: Japanese car culture is generally very respectful. Keep areas tidy, don't touch cars without permission, and be mindful of noise levels, especially at local meets.
  • Booking: For major races and popular events, consider booking tickets and accommodation well in advance, as they can sell out quickly.

Embrace the Spirit of Spring Racing & Meets!

Whether you're chasing the roar of Super Formula engines, admiring meticulously customized machines, or simply soaking in the atmosphere of a casual local meet under the cherry blossoms, Japan has something special in store.
